Senator Prince Johnson’s Decision not to Support President Weah’s Re-election Bid Reflects a Lack of Mutual Respect in Liberian Politics.

In ancient Athens, where democracy was born, the importance of mutual respect between citizens and their leaders was paramount. This respect was regarded as the foundation of a stable and successful society. Unfortunately, this principle seems to have been overlooked by a few of our contemporary politicians.

The recent statement made by Senator Prince Johnson from Nimba County, in which he expressed his decision not to support President Weah’s re-election bid due to the constant disrespect he has received from the president, is a sad reflection of this reality.

Senator Johnson is no ordinary politician. He is a veteran of the civil war in Liberia, and his involvement in the conflict has been the subject of much debate. However, he is a senator and, in that capacity, he represents the population of Nimba County. It is incumbent upon the government to ensure that their voices are heard and their needs are met. However, he asserts that the current administration has ostracized him, preventing him from meeting with the President. This situation is unacceptable because it robs the population of Nimba County of its representation at the highest levels of government.

It is worth noting that Senator Johnson supported President Weah’s bid for the presidency in 2017. But it appears that the relationship between them has deteriorated since then.

Senator Johnson’s allegations of disrespect on the part of the president are serious and, if true, they speak to a lack of professionalism and decorum on the part of the highest office in the land. The president is the leader of all Liberians, and he must respect the opinions and positions of all elected officials, regardless of whether he agrees with them.

Senator Johnson’s decision not to support President Weah’s re-election bid, is his right as a citizen and an elected official. He is free to endorse any candidate he chooses, and he has expressed his optimism about the chances of former Vice President Joseph Boakai and Senator Jeremiah Kung in the upcoming elections on October 10th. However, it is unfortunate that his decision is based on what he perceives as a lack of respect for the President. This demonstrates that our political leaders must do better to build relationships and work together to improve the country.

To sum up, mutual respect between citizens and their leaders is a fundamental principle of any democratic society. Senator Prince Johnson’s decision not to support President Weah’s re-election bid due to the constant disrespect he has received from the President is a sad reminder of the current state of our politics.

It is time for our leaders to rise above their personal differences and work together for the good of the country. The government must ensure that all elected officials, regardless of their affiliations, are given the respect they deserve. By doing so, they will foster a culture of mutual respect and trust, which is essential for the progress and development of any society. It is only then that we can truly live up to the ideals of democracy and build a stable and successful Liberia.
