Health Authority Denies Rumored of Marburg Virus in Liberia

Health Minister Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah has dismissed rumour that a case of a new disease, Marburg virus is in the country

Addressing the Information Ministry’s regular news conference Thursday, Health Minister Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah said only one case of Marburg disease was confirmed in Guinea, but such disease is yet to be found in Liberia.

Minister Jallah disclosed that about six counties are responding currently in the fight against the coronavirus disease.

The Health Minister stressed that they are testing any suspected case and border counties, relative to Ebola confirmed cases in Ivory Coast.

Dr. Jallah also indicated that the Johnson and Johnson vaccine being administered in the country is safe and there is no need for the public to panic.

She added that Liberia is doing very well in its fight against COVID-19; while encouraging the country’s population to continue adhering to set health protocols.

For his part, the Immunization Program Manager, Adolphus Clarke, noted that about 16,821 persons have been vaccinated with Johnson and Johnson vaccine in 14 days, of which 66% accounts for males; while 34% accounts for females.

Clarke disclosed that 96,000 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine are expected into the country on Friday, August 20, 2021.
