The Temple of Justice was brought to a standstill on Monday, June 26, as Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene Yuoh celebrated her 69th birthday.
Having been in her position for less than a year, Chief Justice Yuoh had vowed to rebrand the Judicial Branch of the Government of Liberia.
However, many lawyers and party litigants were critical of the celebrations, as judicial workers abandoned their normal duties to attend. Some felt that the Chief Justice’s focus on rebranding was not being taken seriously, and that she had denied justice to those seeking redress.
It was suggested that her promises to uphold the rule of law were nothing more than empty rhetoric, and that the celebrations had deprived many people of the opportunity to seek legal redress.
