The normal proceedings of the Liberian Senate were abruptly interrupted when Finance Minister Samuel Tweah and Liberia Maritime Commissioner, Lenn Eugene Nagbe made an unexpected appearance during Thursday’s session.
According to our legislative reporter, Senate Pro-tempore Albert Chie was presiding over the session when the two officials approached him and whispered in his ear. Within seconds, Chie left his seat and handed over control to Senator Saah Joseph before walking out of the session with Tweah and Nagbe.
This sudden departure caused chaos and disruption among the senators, with many expressing dissatisfaction and moving in different directions.
Montserrado County Senator Abraham Darius Dillon raised concerns about the incident, stating that such behavior by government officials should not be tolerated.
He also called for a change in leadership, suggesting that former Vice President Joseph Boakai of the Unity Party should be elected in the 2023 elections to restore order.
The heated discussion among the senators continued for over 15 minutes until Chie returned and resumed the legislative business of the session.
