In a notable scandal, accusations were made against the City Mayor for allegedly influencing Varleh Telleh to murder Miss Charloe Musu, the niece of former Chief Justice, Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott.
However, the Legal Counsel of Mayor Jefferson Koijee held a news conference in Monrovia on May 4, 2023, to clarify that his client had no involvement in any criminal activity.
Leaked audio played by Cllr. Johnson revealed a conversation between Mr. Witherspoon, former Deputy Information Minister Eugene Fahngon, Cllr. Jerome Verdier, Sheikh Sackor, and Monrovia City Police Director, Col. Thomas Garwo.
The voices in the audio were allegedly conspiring with Col. Garwo to falsely accuse Mayor Koijee of wrongdoing in exchange for generous rewards.
Mayor Jefferson Koijee, in response, labeled Mr. Stanton Witherspoon a killer who had amassed an inexplicable amount of wealth through his fake health certificates.
He also described Mr. Fahngon as a blackmailer and hustler, while condemning Cllr. Verdier for betraying his own profession and academic credentials.
