Winston Blyden, a dedicated journalist working for Bana FM at the House of Representatives, has fallen victim to a brutal attack by the security personnel of Hon Hanson Kiazolu, a lawmaker from District #17 in Montserrado County.
The unfortunate incident took place at the Capitol Building in Monrovia, where the bodyguards of the Unity Party lawmaker assaulted Blyden during a heated altercation.
The Reporters Association of Liberia (RAL) has expressed its strong denouncement of this reprehensible act against one of its esteemed members, who was simply performing his duty to the public.
The RAL is deeply distressed by the alleged barbaric attack on Blyden, who was assigned as the legislative reporter for Bana FM. The Association has been informed that the attack was motivated by Blyden’s objective criticism of the opposition party and its leader, Joseph Nyumah Boakai.
Although Representative Kiazolu has denied any involvement in the attack, the RAL has cautioned politicians and citizens against resorting to such inhumane behavior towards journalists.
The RAL’s leadership, under the guidance of President Willie Tokpah, has pledged to support all journalists in the country by ensuring their safety and well-being.
The RAL hopes that this unfortunate incident serves as a reminder to all Liberians of the importance of respecting the media and the vital role it plays in promoting transparency and accountability in our society.
