
The Legislative Press Pool’s Independent Elections Commission (LEGISPOOL IEC) has publicized the electoral rules for its forthcoming elections on August 25, 2023.
LEGISPOOL represents a collective of journalists from diverse print, digital, and online media outlets, tasked with covering the Liberian government’s primary branch, the Legislature.
In a statement released on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, the LEGISPOOL IEC announced that candidate registration started on Tuesday, August 1, and will conclude on Tuesday, August 15, 2023.
It further clarified that campaigning for the upcoming election will commence on August 18 and conclude on August 24. The election will follow on Friday, August 25, 2023, with elected officials serving a tenure of two years.
The electoral rules stipulate that registration fees for the presidential candidate are US$75, for the Vice President US$65, for the Secretary General US$50, for the Assistant Secretary US$40, and for the Financial Secretary US$30.
The nomination period for candidates is set for August 16 to 18, 2023; voter exhibition will be held from August 17 to 18, 2023; the voter roll will be published on August 19, and debates and elections will occur on August 25 of this year.
The IEC concurrently urges all potential candidates to comply with the outlined rules, as there will be no extensions to any part of the process.
