Liberia’s At-Risk Youth Rehabilitation Program Lacks Funding Despite Promises Made by Government

Zeogar Wilson, the Youth and Sports Minister, has recently announced that the government of Liberia has yet to provide any funding for the “At-Risk” youth rehabilitation program, despite promises made during its launch.

Back in June 2022, the President of Liberia initiated a National Fund Drive worth 13 million United States Dollars to empower and rehabilitate young people in need.

During a press briefing held by the Ministry of Information, Minister Wilson disclosed that the promised amount has not been provided by the government yet. Nevertheless, the ministry has been able to collect a modest sum of over 28,000 United States Dollars from other sources.

In addition to his announcement, Minister Wilson called for citizens to take responsibility for their waste disposal in their communities.

He also urged citizens to abstain from using “At-Risk” youth to dispose of their waste.
