The Ministry of National Defence has revealed that the rape allegation against Lieutenant Colonel Nyanku E. Williams by Sergeant Obento Roberts has been proven false.
According to a statement released Tuesday, the Ministry of Justice has forwarded the findings of the investigation into an alleged rape involving the lieutenant.
The information stated that the Military Police findings were turned over to the Ministry of National Defence and later forwarded to the Ministry of Justice in accordance with an MOU between the two Institutions for handling such matters.
The report states that all the statements recorded from witnesses during the investigation lack justification to link suspect Nyankun E. Williams to the commission of the crime.
The report further says, from the facts and circumstances established during the investigation, the Women and Children Protection section of the Liberia National Police recommended that Suspect Williams is cleared from the allegation of rape levied against him by Sgt. Obento Roberts due to lack of evidence to link him to the commission of the act.
It can be recalled, on April 26, 2021, Sergeant Obento Roberts formally complained to the AFL Headquarters that Lieutenant Colonel Williams had sex with his 16-year-old daughter.
The communiqué indicated that the complainant’s communication was received on April 28, 2021 and that the Military Police (MP) were directed to investigate the matter.
