NEC Announces 2.4M Registered Voters for Highly Anticipated October 2023 Polls

In preparation of the highly anticipated polls scheduled for October 10, 2023, the National Elections Commission (NEC) has officially declared that a total of 2,471,617 registered voters will be participating in the elections.

During a press conference held at the NEC headquarters in Monrovia on Monday, Commission Chairperson Davidetta Brown Lassanah revealed that this final figure was determined after a thorough process of exhibition, deduplication, and adjudication of the 2023 Biometric Voter Registration provisional role.

Before the exhibition, the NEC initially announced a preliminary figure of 2,498,904 registered voters. However, after identifying 27,192 duplicate records and flagging 529 suspected underage registrants, the total number of active registrants was adjusted to 2,471,183.

Madam Lassanah further disclosed that out of the total registered voters, 1,237,257 are females, while 1,234,360 are males.

In addition to the voter statistics, the NEC Chairperson also shared information regarding the candidates’ nomination process. A total of 1,030 aspirants submitted their nomination documents to the Commission.

Out of this number, 159 (15%) are female candidates, while 871 (85%) are male candidates.

Furthermore, there were 199 (19%) independent aspirants, and 831 (81%) aspirants representing political parties, coalitions, or alliances.

These figures provide valuable insights into the demographics and participation of registered voters and candidates in the upcoming elections, setting the stage for an exciting and inclusive electoral process.
