NPA Managing Director Bill Twehway Describes Sinking Vessel Saga As Tragedy

The Managing Director of the National Port Authority, Hon. Bill Twehway, has described as a tragedy and unfortunate situation involving the Niko Ivanko vessel that went into distress a few days ago off the coast of Marshall and Little Buchanan.

Speaking at a news conference held at the Headquarters of the Liberia Maritime Authority Monday, July 19, 2021, when he joined other high ranking government officials, Hon. Twehway urged the public to remain calm as the focus of the national search and rescue coordination is to ensure that those who are missing are first recovered before Investigation regarding circumstances leading to the sinking of the vessel can be prioritized. He assured media entities at the conference and the general public that a full scale Investigation will be launched and those found culpable will be dealt with according to the laws.

It can be recalled that on Sunday, July 28,2021, that members of the Liberia Maritime Authority and Armed Forces of Liberia Coast Guard announced to the public that a vessel capsized while heading to Haper, Maryland County, leaving at least 15 persons being search for.
