Protemp Chea Appoints Sen. Dillon Chair of Committee on Youth and Sports

Montserrado County Senator Abraham Darius Dillon has been appointed as Chair of the Senate Committee on Youth & Sports.

According to a communication dated August 4, 2021 from the Office of the Protemp, Sen. Dillon’s appointment is in line with Rule 15(2) of the standing rules of the Liberian Senate.

The communication in part read, “I present my compliments and in line with Rule 15(2) of the standing rules of the Liberian Senate, am pleased to appoint you as Chair of the Senate Committee on Youth & Sports. “ It continued, ‘We believe you will do your best to justify the confidence reposed in you.”

Sen. Dillon, as part of his responsibilities, will provide oversight for the Liberia National Students Union (LINSU), Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY) and other recognized youth organizations across the country.

The Montserrado County Senator was the center of controversy over the past few weeks when he denied upgrading his ticket to Business class while traveling to the United States of America via Accra. He later backpedaled and apologized for deceiving his supporters and those who believed in him after Frontpage Africa Newspaper published his ticket from Ghana to the USA.

Just a few days ago, he was lambasted on social media for allegedly accepting the second payment of US$15,000 given to each Lawmaker for the purpose of Legislative Engagement. Though the move was criticized by Liberians, many of those who support the Senator indicated that he was in no wrong for accepting the money as it was allotted through the budget.

The Senator is to revert to the Standing Rule of the Senate to get a full content of Term of Reference of the Committee.
