Unity Party Political Leader, Joseph Boakai on Tuesday failed to appear before the Monrovia City Court to testify in the ongoing case involving the All Liberian Party and Alexander Cummings of the Alternative National Congress.
On Thursday April 14, prosecutions lawyers headed by Liberia Solicitor General Cllr. Sayma Syrenius Cephus prayed the city court Judge Jomah Jallah to subpoena Amb Boakai which a writ of Subpoena Duce Stecum Ad-Testificandum was taken to Amb Boakai Rehab residence.
But during Tuesday’s proceedings, the sheriff reported that on the 15 of April, he took the writ at the Unity Party Headquarters and he was informed that the party standard bearer was not present, that he was at his Rehab residence.
Sheriff Nathaniel Dennis indicated in his return that on the following day he again took the report at Amb Joseph Boakai’s home and he was informed by an EPS officer only identified as Fredrick that the UP standard bearer was getting dressed up in the house.
Dennis further informed the court that the EPS officer gave him a seat to await the Ambassador that he was going to announce to him until he was later informed that the UP standard bearer had gone Gardnerville.
During Tuesday’s proceeding, prosecution lawyers prayed the court to declare the former Unity Party current standard deposition so as to state cause why he shouldn’t be held in contempt by the court.
Despite the prosecution lawyers pleading the defense lawyers headed by Cllr. Abranham Sillih, requested the court to quash the prosecution request.
