US Ambassador Urges Muslim Leaders to Ensure Violence-Free Elections in Liberia

During a recent induction ceremony for the newly elected corps of officers of the National Muslim Council of Liberia in Monrovia, United States Ambassador Michael McCarthy made a plea to Muslim leaders to use their influence to ensure that the 2023 presidential and legislative elections remain free from violence.

McCarthy stressed the importance of protecting the democratic gains that Liberia has made over the years, and urged Muslim leaders to do their part in maintaining the country’s progress.

At the same event, newly appointed Chairperson of the National Muslim Council of Liberia, Sheik Abraham Sheriff, urged fellow members of the Muslim community to take a more active role in the organization’s activities. Together, Muslim leaders and community members can work towards a peaceful and successful 2023 poll.
