
The Liberian Senate has mandated its Committee on Youth and Sports to conduct a probe into an alleged looting of the Youth Center in Todee District, Montserrado County by the Director of the Center amongst other things and advice Plenary on what a ction to take.
Plenary took the decision on Thursday, February 3, 2022 when the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. D. Zoegar Wilson appeared to give an account of the reported incident and failure to present an adequate comprehensive plan covering programs for youths under present budgetary allocation.
The decision to cite the Minister was triggered by a revelation by Montserrado County Senator Saah H. Joseph during the Senate’s regular sitting on Tuesday, February 1, 2022.
In his disclosure, Senator Joseph told his colleagues that essential materials were been stolen from the Youth Center in Bentol, which is been managed and supervised by the MYS, something he said has claimed the attention of his office.
According to a release from the Press and Public Affairs Department of the Liberian Senate, reinforcing his revelation in session on Thursday, February 3, 2022, the Montserrado County Lawmaker pointed accusing fingers at the Director of Youth Development at the Ministry of Youth and Sports for been involved in the looting of the Youth Center.
Senator Saah H. Joseph also disclosed to Plenary that instead of the Youth Center being used for its intended purpose of empowering vulnerable youths, the Ministry of Youth and Sports is renting the place to other organizations and collecting funds from those organizations, something he said is uncalled for.
Meanwhile, the Senate has mandated its Committee on Youth and Sports to take charge of the matter by conducting a speedy and timely investigation and advice Plenary thereafter.
