Cllr. Tiawon S. Gongloe, a leading human rights lawyer who is running for President, has expressed concern about the dire living conditions faced by Liberians. He attributes this situation to the sharp increase in exchange rates and the actions of Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) officials who are vying for public office. According to Gongloe, the availability of Liberian dollar banknotes on the market has been manipulated by CDC officials, exacerbating extreme poverty and hardship for the already struggling citizenry.
During a press conference on May 8, 2023, Cllr. Gongloe spoke about the economic hardships that Liberians are facing due to the rising exchange rate and illegal campaign financing by the CDC government. He warned that the situation will only get worse in the lead-up to the elections as officials are dumping Liberian dollars on the market while hoarding US dollars.
Cllr. Gongloe, an economist and lawyer, stated that he is the only presidential aspirant with the qualifications to address these issues. He criticized the CDC government for their disregard for the welfare of the people and called for their peaceful removal from power.
The inflation caused by the skyrocketing exchange rate is leading to hopelessness and despair, and Cllr. Gongloe believes that this is contrary to the hope promised by the CDC government.
