PLP Rejects President Weah Food and Cash Donation to Women League

The People’s Liberation Party has rejected with immediate effect, L$100,000and 50 bags of 25kg rice donated to its women’s league by the Coalition of Political Parties Women in Liberia.

The items were recently given to the women’s leagues of various political parties across the country for an unspecified reason by President George Weah through the Coalition of Political Parties Women in Liberia.

The group is a non-governmental organization through which the Liberian leader gave the items through his Executive Chief of Protocols, Finda Bundoo for distribution to various political parties.

Addressing a news conference Thursday at the party’s national headquarters in Congo Town, PLP Chairman Wilmont Paye said the party’s decision is not intended to raise what he calls eyebrows.

Chairman Paye said the PLP as a political institution in the country and appreciates the gestures from the Liberian government through the Coalition of Political Parties Women in Liberia but stressed that the institution does not need such an assistance.

He also clarified that the decision is not arrogantly taken but in the interest of ordinary citizens.

According to Chairman Paye, the People’s Liberation Party was founded to prioritize the needs and wants of the ordinary citizens in the country and not to receive kind gestures, adding that the party since its establishment, has been identifying with Liberians across the country through the Dr. Daniel E. Cassell Foundation.

He further indicated that the People’s Liberation Party was primarily founded to address major challenges faced by citizens in the country.

Meanwhile, Chairman Wilmont Paye has admonished the Coalition for Democratic Change led-government to redirect the L$100,000 and 50 bags of 25kg rice to the vulnerable communities, including orphanages, underprivileged citizens among others to address some of their basic needs.

He said the party believes vulnerable communities have the most affected Liberians during this coronavirus global pandemic, adding that the donated cash and bags of rice when redirected to them will also put smiles on their faces during the celebration of Liberia’s 74th Independence Day Celebration in the country.
