Political Endorsement Turns Dangerous: Chief of Staff Alleges Threats from Lawmaker

Just moments after Representative Yekeh Kolubah’s Chief of Office Staff, Haji Kromah, publicly endorsed President Weah’s re-election campaign, he expressed deep concern for his own safety, alleging that the lawmaker is targeting him.

During the weekend, several individuals and groups, including Haji Kromah from the Unity Party and Liberia’s 2023 National Flag Day Orator Wantoe Teah Wantoe, made the switch to the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change at the party’s headquarters in Congo Town. Among them was Kromah, who criticized his former boss, Representative Kolubah, for continuously hurling insults at President Weah and women. Kromah claimed that despite offering advice to the lawmaker to refrain from such behavior, he has been ignored.

However, moments after Kromah had finished speaking about his reasons for supporting the President’s re-election, he abruptly returned to the podium, disclosing that his life had been threatened by Representative Kolubah.

In response to these reported threats, the party’s Secretary General, Jefferson Tamba Koijee, expressed his dismay and condemned the endangerment of Kromah and his family members. Koijee, who is also the Mayor of Monrovia City, issued a strong warning to Representative Kolubah, urging him to stop disrespecting women under the guise of political disagreement with President Weah and other citizens he sees as opponents. Koijee emphasized that such behavior is unacceptable in politics, emphasizing that individuals should not insult Liberian women and girls simply because of political differences.

When reached for comment, Representative Kolubah denied knowing anyone by the name of Haji Kromah in his office. He dismissed Kromah as a member of the CDC party with no connection to him.
