Sen. Johnson Resigns as Chair of Senate DSIVA Committee

Months after the U.S. Embassy strongly expressed disappointment in the Liberian Senate for electing notorious warlord Prince Y. Johnson as Chair of the Liberian Senate Committee on Defence, Security, Intelligence and Veterans Affairs; Senator Prince Johnson of Nimba county has finally resigned as Chairman.

In a communication addressed to the Plenary of the Liberian Senate, Senator Prince Johnson, who is known for his controversies, said he decided to tender in his resignation following pieces of advice from his family, including other individuals.

The longest serving Nimba lawmaker, state that he wants to focus on his re-election bid including the
re-election of President Weah.

Upon receiving the information about Sen. Johnson resignation, Montserrado County Senator Abraham Darius Dillon, who is currently visiting the US, took to Facebook celebrating the decision of his colleague whom he did not endorse to such position.
“Sen. Prince Johnson’s pressured resignation from the Senate Leadership position on defence, Security, Intelligence and Veterans Affairs is a step toward accountability and impunity. This is a victory toward popular calls for the establishment of a War and Economic Crimes Court in Liberia,” the Montserrado County Junior Senator asserted.
