The Director General of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority, Emma Glassco says her institution has begun the distribution of standardized fishing nets to fishing communities across the country.
Speaking Monday, Madam Glassco said fishermen are cardinal to the growth and development of Liberia’s fishery sector and as such, the government will ensure they are supported.
She said that due to the critical role of fishermen in the country, the government, through NAFAA, will continue to make intervention aimed at empowering them.
The NAFAA boss was speaking following the launch of the free fishing net distribution in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.
According to her, the distribution of the nets is intended to increase the production of fish harvested from waters through the use of standardized fishing nets.
