Ahead of the upcoming Representative by-elections in Nimba County Electoral District #1, former Representative and now Senator of Nimba, Jeremiah Kpan Koung, has cautioned electorates in the district to vote for people on the basis of competence and qualifications, but not those with questionable financial wealth.
Making the call on Friday in a live radio interview on Radio Seletorwah in Ganta, Senator Koung maintained that his support to Professor Francis Nya Mawean is unwavering.
Senator Koung said Professor Mawean is more prepared and qualified to represent the people of Nimba’s 1st district.
He stressed that Professor Mawean, as a classroom teacher, may not have money, but he is well educated and developmentally oriented to better serve his people.
Speaking further about his choice for the by-elections, Senator Koung disclosed that Prof. Mawean is well placed in terms of development planning; an achievement he thinks is even more than financial wealth.
He acknowledged the importance of money, as a factor in elections, but at the same time said it shouldn’t be the fundamental basis on which people should be elected to positions.
