United States Ambassador to Liberia, Michael McCarthy has expressed frustration over the poor conditions of many county hospitals following his three weeks visit to Bomi, Gbarpolu, and four counties in the southeastern part of the country.
A release issued on Monday quotes the US Ambassador as saying, he is deeply troubled to encounter multiple county hospitals that received not one penny of what they were promised in the 2022 national budget.
According to Ambassador McCarthy, hospitals on which lives depend, where outbreaks are prevented and suffering is alleviated, did not receive any portion of the US$100,000 or more appropriated by the legislature for their operations.
He stressed that the Tellowoyan Memorial Hospital in Lofa County, as reported by the press a week ago, currently survives on the backs of incredibly dedicated health professionals.
At the same time, Ambassador McCarthy has disclosed that the United States Government is about to spend a total of over US$40 million for the construction of the state-of-the-art National Reference Laboratory.
